Hamza has an Honours BA degree in Criminology and has been employed with Correctional Service Canada (CSC) for 13 years. He has called Iqaluit home for the past five years and is currently responsible for the operation of the Nunavut Area Parole Office. In 2012 Hamza was the recipient of CSC’s Multiculturalism Award for promoting initiatives that support the successful reintegration of offenders belonging to ethnocultural minority groups. For Hamza, his firsthand experience with the consequences of poverty and homelessness is what drives his passion to assist marginalized and stigmatized populations through his work in the area of offender reintegration. Hamza and his wife further contribute to the well-being of their community by opening their home to children in need of foster care.
