Bastian was born in the Bahamas. At a young age, he packed his bags and moved to Toronto, where he found work as a Personal Support Worker. Witnessing the poor health and safety conditions in his workplace motivated him to become a steward. His union, Service Employees International (SEIU), saw his hard work and dedication and hired him as an organizer. Bastian led campaigns that helped thousands of healthcare employees form unions in their workplaces to fight for respect and dignity. Today he leads a team of organizers at SEIU Healthcare whose job is to get union members engaged and involved with their union.
