Mr. Jenkins is Chairman of OpenText™ Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC) of Waterloo, the largest software company in Canada.

Tom Jenkins has been active for more than 30 years in innovation and economic development in both the private and public sectors.

Over the past 30 years, Mr. Jenkins has pioneered many of the technologies commonly used today to manage digital information to increase productivity and governance. As CEO of OpenText Corporation for more than a decade, he took the company from a University of Waterloo start-up to the first Internet IPO in Canada. Mr. Jenkins managed the development of the first Internet-based Document Management system as well the earliest versions of internet based Workflow, Portals and Social Networking software. Mr. Jenkins is the author or co-author of eight widely read books on the Internet publishing most recently: “Enterprise Information Management”.

Mr. Jenkins is currently a board member of Thomson Reuters Inc., a global media corporation based in Toronto, Manulife Financial Corporation, a global financial services firm based in Toronto and a board member of TransAlta, a power generation corporation based in Calgary. He is the Chair of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and the Chair of the Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN). He is Canadian Chair of the Atlantik Bruecke, a director of the C.D. Howe Institute, and a director of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives (CCCE). Mr. Jenkins serves as Honorary Colonel of the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada (RHFC) and is a member of the Canadian Forces Staff College Foundation Trust in Toronto. Mr. Jenkins is the tenth Chancellor of the University of Waterloo and the Chair of advisory board of the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary. He is a founder of Communitech in Waterloo.

Mr. Jenkins is the past appointed chair of the Government of Canada’s Defence Procurement Panel, the past chair of the Research and Development Review Panel, past appointed member of the Government of Canada’s Competition Policy Review Panel, and past appointed member of the Province of Ontario’s Ontario Commercialization Network Review Committee (OCN). Mr. Jenkins is a past member of the boards of BMC Software, Inc. a software corporation based in Texas and Slater Steel, a steel manufacturing company based in Canada.

Mr. Jenkins received an honorary doctorate of laws from the University of Waterloo and an honorary doctorate of Military Science from the Royal Military College of Canada. He is a recipient of the Ontario Entrepreneur of the Year, the McMaster Engineering L.W. Shemilt Distinguished Alumni Award and the Schulich School of Business Outstanding Executive Leadership award.

Mr. Jenkins received an M.B.A. (York University), an EE M.A.Sc. (University of Toronto) and a B.Eng. & Mgt. in Engineering Physics and Commerce (McMaster University). He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (FCAE) and was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD) and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal (QDJM). Mr. Jenkins is an Officer of the Order of Canada (OC).

Mr. Jenkins is active as a philanthropist for the benefit of universities, hospitals, military trusts, historical and cultural organizations and scholarships for disadvantaged students, children of veterans, and recognition of academic achievements. Mr. Jenkins resides with his wife Toby in Canmore, Alberta.
