Farewell to Nova Scotia
Well, that’s it. After 9 exhausting but enlightening days travelling the length and width of this province, we are on the bus on the way to Halifax International Airport to depart for Ottawa.
And so ….
Farewell to Nova Scotia, you seabound coast
Let your mountains dark and dreary be
For when I am far away on the brimy ocean tossed
Will you ever heave a sigh or a wish for me?
The sun was setting in the west
The birds were singing on every tree
All nature seemed inclined for to rest
But still there was no rest for me
I grieve to leave my native land
I grieve to leave my comrades all
And my parents, whom I held so dear
And my bonny, bonny lassie that I loved so well
The drums do beat and the wars do alarm
My captain calls, I must obey
So farewell, farewell to Nova Scotia’s charm
For it’s early in the morning, I’ll be far, far away
Farewell to Nova Scotia, you seabound coast
Let your mountains dark and dreary be
For when I am far away on the brimy ocean tossed
Will you ever heave a sigh or a wish for me?
Hello/Bonjour:
Well done, folks. You came, you saw, you conquered! Nova Scotia shall never be quite the same as you have, no doubt, left your mark on her people.
As you make your way back to Ottawa, I hope you carry our part of the world in a special place within you. I hope you have a clearer understanding of us, but more importantly of yourselves. I hope you have accomplished at least some of the goals you had for your leadership learning journey.
Reporting back on such a huge experience in a way that is reflective and inclusive of all group members is a real challenge. Time is tight and every statement – in fact, every word – matters. Choose wisely.
Finally, remember to have some fun. While Nova Scotia is Canada’s ocean playground, our nation’s capital has lots to offer and your journey continues. Keep awake for a few more days! Soon, you will be home in your own beds again. If you are anthing like me only then you will ask yourself “what did I just live?”. Four years later I find myself still unpacking that question.
Thank you for sharing something of yourselves with us. We are better off for having crossed paths with each of you.
Farewell! A la prochaine!
Forget not Nova Scotia’s Masterpiece, Cape Breton Island! Come back for a dance, a story, yummy food, some music and a sleepover. We will be sure to have hair dryers available!
